There is no age limit on using new tools to reach your network/audience. If you are over 40, jump in and try it.
I have been using social networks from the time I was in High School back in the 1970's. We had a terminal set up to log into the local University mainframe and some enterprising engineering students found our address at the "all girls" school. Needless to say, eventually my best friend and I were dating a few of the engineering students (its OK we were 18 and seniors at the time).
In college we were addicted to "adventure", an online game, though nothing like todays multiplayer role playing but a great beginning.
Then there was email, instant messaging and texting....
During the dot.com explosion of the 1990's I signed up for LinkedIn to keep my network fresh and found it was a great way to connect with collegues. It is a job networker's essential tool.
Facebook was originally to protect my son but now I have found old high school friends. I am connected with my son's school, teachers and even his friends (I am one of the cool moms!). Ok, I admit it, I even play farmville!
Then I tried twitter!
Mainframes --> PCs --> the Internet --> eCommerce --> Web2.0 (community)
and whatever comes in the future - be sure to stay current.
Now if I could just figure out how to have more than 24 hours in a day.
Happy networking.
Donna
